Journeys: Reading Curriculum
We will be using the Journeys curriculum this year at all walk to read levels. This is the first year this curriculum is being implemented in the Kennewick School District. There are many online resources that were developed with this curriculum so please be on the look out for information. We also will be sending home spelling words on friday , with a pre-test on Monday. With this curriculum we have found fun at home family connections for you to enjoy with your child. These do not have to be returned back to school, this is just extra for you to enjoy with your child. Your child will be bringing home decodables so these would be a great tool to read for your 20 minutes a night. The decodables practice the lessons that we covered in class as well as building fluency and confidence within your child. Make sure they are finger tracking while they read so they are seeing the word each time. It is okay if it seems that they memorized it. As long as they are seeing the word when they say it, it is imprinting.
Math Connects: Math Curriculum
Our math curriculum is called Math Connects. Your child will have homework every night, except for Fridays and test days. We understand that your family has a busy schedule and homework can't always be completed on the day it is sent home. We will accept any late homework until the unit test is given. If you notice your child is struggling on his/her homework, please feel free to help him/her. If you are unsure how to help, write a note at the top of the homework paper and we will help him/her complete it in class the next day. Homework is part of your child's math grade, so please help your child remember to complete and return his/her homework.

They learn to organize their thoughts, and add detail through questioning. Students will be learning to TOUCH, TELL, SKETCH, and WRITE. We will be publishing their stories as well as using a writing workshop that will show them different modes of writing.
